Madhya Pradesh: Congress MLA Khatik booked for telling mob to ‘set police station on fire’
BHOPAL: After a video allegedly showing Congress MLA from Shivpuri district, Shakuntala Khatik telling her supporters to set police station ablaze during farmer protests went viral— an FIR has been registered against her, late on Monday night.
SP Shivpuri Sunil Pande said, “Shakuntala Khatik along with Venus Goyal has been booked under section 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 436 (Mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc), 115 (abetment of offence), 294 (abusing), 189 (threat of injury to public servant), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code”.
“She is yet to be arrested,” said Pandey.
Khatik is Congress MLA from Karera constituency in Shivpuri district. And Goyal is block Congress president.
In the video, Khatik is seen as telling a mob for setting a police station on fire during the Congress’s farmer protests in Karera of Shivpuri district. Khatik is first time MLA from Karera and is only tenth pass, said sources.
Police have also raided the premises of Khatik but she was not found, added sources. She could not be contacted by TOI to comment over the issue. Of the sections imposed on Khatik, several are non-bailable sections of Indian Penal Code, added sources.
