Madhya Pradesh human rights commission issues notice to district collectors over farmer suicides
BHOPAL: The State Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) on Thursday issued notices to district collectors of Narsinghpur and Sagar in connection with suicide of two farmers allegedly due to delayed compensation. A farmer Laxmi Prasad had committed suicide in Narsinghpur district. In the notice, MPHRC has sought answers from the district collector regarding when the farmer applied for compensation after crop loss, when the inquiry was completed in his case, how many days were lost in verifying his claim and who was responsible for not looking into his case in due time.
The commission also inquired whether compensation was paid before or after the farmer’s death and how many such cases are still pending.
Similarly, in the suicide case of Gulai Karmi in Sagar district, the commission asked the district collector about the rules under which he was given loan and the rate of interest charged from him and the record of the transaction. The collectors have been asked to send a report within ten days.
