‘Make America great again’: Trump stands firm on tariffs despite global market decline | World News

US President Donald Trump is standing his decision to impose tariffs, even as global markets continue to fall. He defended his move on Monday, saying the United States has been taken advantage of other countries for too long.
In a post on Truth Social, his social media platform, Trump wrote, “Our past ‘leaders’ are to blame for allowing this, and so much else, to happen to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Trump, who is currently serving as president, believes the tariffs are necessary to fix trade imbalances and support American factories. He called out China as “the biggest abuser of them all” and criticised Beijing for increasing its own tariffs in response.

The president also urged the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates. But Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell warned on Friday that the tariffs could push inflation higher. “There’s a lot of waiting and seeing going on, including us,” Powell said, signalling no immediate change in interest rates.
Trump spent the weekend in Florida, attending a Saudi-funded golf tournament at his Miami course and staying at his private Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach. On Sunday, he posted a video of himself playing golf and proudly told reporters on Air Force One, “You heard I won, right? It’s good to win.”
Despite the economic uncertainty and rising concerns about a possible recession, Trump said he would not reverse course. “Sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something,” he said.
On Monday, Trump is set to welcome the Los Angeles Dodgers to the White House to celebrate their World Series win. He is also meeting with Israeli Prime Miner Benjamin Netanyahu, and the two leaders are expected to hold a joint press conference later in the day.
