A man suspected of slashing and stabbing four girls with a meat cleaver in US’ Brooklyn was shot at the New York Police Department (NYPD) officers on Sunday morning, officials said.
In an update the New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the four girls aged – 16, 13, 11 and 8 – suffered serious slash and stab wounds from the meat cleaver but are expected to survive, after they were found inside a Brooklyn apartment in Bensonhurst.
The girl aged 11, who was attacked the meat cleaver, called up the police and informed them that she and her siblings had been attacked their uncle, Commissioner Tisch said.

Officers who arrived at the scene in southern Brooklyn said that they heard screams and were met the suspect at the entrance of the home, who was reportedly carrying the bloodied meat cleaver and ignored several warnings to drop the weapon on ground, Associated Press reported.

Tisch said that two officers, who saw blood on the floor and wall of the house, shot the suspect after he advanced toward the officers.
The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Longqian Chen, was admitted to hospital in critical condition. Chen’s family members told police that he has a hory of mental illness, CBS News reported.
“Two officers discharged their firearms, firing seven total rounds between them and striking the subject, ending the threat. This encounter is captured in bodycam video,” Police Commissioner Tisch added.
As the investigation in the case is ongoing, the New York police also found a bloody knife, in addition to the meat cleaver.
