Manchester City’s decision to let me go was a little shocking, but purely business

Opening up about Manchester City’s decision to part ways with one of their greatest-ever players, Kevin De Bruyne has revealed that he was shocked when he had the conversation with the club but defended the team’s decision to let him go as being one that was led for ‘business’ reasons.
Club captain and among the greatest midfielders to play in the Premier League, De Bruyne has made 416 appearances for Manchester City and was a crucial cog in the most successful runs in the league’s hory, as Pep Guardiola’s side won six titles in the last seven seasons, as well as a UEFA Champions League triumph and plenty of domestic cups in a period when the team won 19 major trophies.
But with the last few years of his career being blighted injuries, and City’s recent poor form making it obvious that they are a team that must transition into the future, De Bruyne has been deemed surplus to requirements. The Belgian midfielder spoke about coming to terms with that fact after Man City’s 2-4 win over Everton on Saturday.

“A little bit yeah, a little bit,” he was quoted as saying The Times after being asked if he was shocked the club’s decision. “Obviously the club took a decision. I have not had any offer the whole year, they just took a decision. Obviously, I was a bit surprised but I just have to accept it. It’s fine. Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level, like I’m showing. I understand clubs have to make decisions.”
“I don’t feel like I want to share because it’s basically more business-wise for them, they just make decision based on that,” the Belgian said about the reasons that were communicated to him the club. “It was not really a long conversation it was just what they told me and then there’s nothing. I have to accept the situation, even if I feel like I can still do a good job, but that’s it.”
On his future, De Bruyne is yet to take a call. “I don’t really care. The decision has been taken and since then I just want to play football like I always have. I need to look at the future, start speaking to people,” he said.
