Mbappe slams Paraguay senator over rac comments after FIFA World Cup match
3 min readUpdated: Jul 7, 2026 07:10 PM France superstar Kylian Mbappe slammed Celeste Amarilla, a Paraguayan senator of the Liberal Radical Party, because of the rac remarks she had made after Paraguay lost to the Les Blues in the World Cup Round of 16. Mbappe called Amarilla a “despicable woman” who was “unworthy” of serving in Paraguay’s Congress.
“Madame Celeste Amarilla, You are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay, that country which has sweated passion and honor throughout the competition. Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the horic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup, making way for an incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country. I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world,” Mbappe wrote on his X account.
The whole controversy started after Amarilla posted a series of rac comments on X after Mbappe converted the winning penalty in France’s victory over Paraguay on Saturday, mocking the French captain’s origins, upbringing, education and appearance. France advanced to the quarterfinals, where it will face Morocco on Thursday.

Amarilla later issued an open letter in French and Spanish to Mbappé on social media, in which she said her problem was with the player, not the country of France. She wrote that she regretted mreating Mbappé with “the same insults” she’s received as a mixed-race person and she had deleted her post.
But she also demanded an apology from Mbappé, accusing him of gender-based violence in his comments about her, and threatening legal action if he didn’t retract them.
The Paraguayan government released a statement Monday afternoon condemning Amarilla’s remarks as “contrary to the values and principles that inspire peaceful coexence and respect for human dignity that our country promotes.” It added that the senator’s comments do not represent either the Paraguayan government or the Paraguayan people.
The French Football Federation on Monday denounced Amarilla’s comments as “utterly abhorrent” and “unacceptable,” adding that it would refer the matter to prosecutors.
