Medha Patkar meets AAP neta in jail
BHOPAL: Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar met state convener of AAP Alok Agarwal at Bhopal Central Jail on Wednesday.
Agarwal is in jail for past two days after he was arrested by Bhopal police for demanding FIR against police officers who according to a tribal woman’s family had allegedly abetted her suicide.
Talking about the incident, Patakar told TOI, “This is what we have faced throughout the Narmada Bachao Andolan, it is ridiculous and role of police is condemnable. There is clear cut guideline of Supreme Court in Lalita Yadav case that in such cases where there is an allegation of such serious nature against police, first FIR should be registered. Alok Agarwal was arrested immediately but in case of other issues where influential people are involved police says investigations are on”. State unit of the party will court arrests on Thursday as a mark of protest against the arrest of Alok Agarwal.
“He was not given bail even under section 151by the sub-divisional magistrate, in other sections that have been levelled against him, it is the court that will grant bail. We have decided that all the volunteers of the AAP will court arrests at the MP Nagar police station on Thursday, if demanding justice for a deprived is a crime, then we all are criminals,” state secretary of the party Dushyant Dangi said.
AAP volunteers also ran a campaign against the act of police on social media.
On November 20, family members of a Pardhi woman were protesting in front of the Gandhi Nagar police station, after she died of burns. Her kin alleged that she was abetted for suicide by cops and demanded action against them.
AAP volunteers reached there which lead to an altercation with the police, subsequently Alok Agarwal and two others were arrested.
Police says that Agarwal and other AAP volunteers instigated the crowd leading to stone pelting.
