‘Mentor is someone who goes to Maldives for two weeks mid-season’

After a short break of a few days in Maldives, Kevin Pietersen is back in the Delhi Capitals dugout as he reprises his role of a team mentor for the Indian Premier League table toppers. Pietersen was off for a few days with his family. And Delhi star KL Rahul was in no mood to let him forget it.
Ahead of Delhi’s clash with Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Delhi’s social media team posted a clip showing the light-hearted banter between Rahul and Pietersen.Pietersen met Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill during a training session on Friday where he was checking up on Shubman. During that conversation, the former England players could be heard remarking about his role as Delhi Capitals’ mentor.
“What’s a mentor? Nobody knows,” he shrugged while talking to Shubman.

At this point, the camera panned to KL Rahul, who cheekily quipped: “A mentor is someone who goes to the Maldives for two weeks mid-season.”

The duo then took part in birthday celebrations where the DC mentor made sure plenty of cake ended up on Rahul’s face.
Rahul and Pietersen have indulged in casual banter previously as well. Recently, after Rahul’s heroics against Chennai Super Kings, where he scored 77 off 51 balls to lead Delhi to a 25-run win, the social media team got Pietersen and Rahul talking on camera. That was when Rahul reminded the DC mentor of a tweet he had posted many years back about watching the India batter at crease.
“It’s better than watching the paint of the wall dry. Exactly. That was your tweet about me one day,” Rahul had told the team mentor.Story continues below this ad
“Did I say that? Well, I am glad you’ve changed your game,” the veteran England star replied.
