Michael Vaughan on England combusting at the World Cup: ‘Contract situation is the reason we’ve frightened no one’ | Cricket-world-cup News

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan believes the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announcing the men’s central contracts midway through the ODI World Cup in India is the reason behind the defending champions falling short of standards at ongoing tournament.
With just the one win in six games, England lie at the bottom of the points table as the only team with just two points at this point.
Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire pod, Vaughan blasted the cricket board’s decision. “When contracts aren’t right, there’s so many of them in terms of two, three or four years, they’ll talk about it at the breakfast table and there’ll be talks about those contracts every single day. Who’s got what, how much are you getting? It’s a complete and utter draction. It should’ve been sorted out before and if not before, it should’ve been left till the end of the World Cup,” he said.
“You cannot be doing contracts midway through a big World Cup. Particularly at a part of the world where we don’t have skillet to be really competitive – in India. We have enough to frighten teams, but we’ve frightened no one the way we’ve played. I’m going to put the contract situation, and I’ll let them ring me up and tell me, ‘It’s rubbish, Vaughney’. I’ll say, that’s the reason England are playing the way that they are. Contract situations. It never, never helps,” Vaughan added. Most Read
