Michael Vaughan scolds RCB players for not shaking Dhoni’s hand after RCB vs CSK | Ipl News

Royal Challengers Bengaluru players were a boerous bunch after they managed to pull off a he against the Chennai Super Kings in their final group stage game of IPL 2024 on Saturday. Needing to defend 17 runs in the final over, Yash Dayal got Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s wicket on the second ball to help RCB qualify.
It was one of the biggest turnarounds of IPL 2024: the RCB team was at the bottom of the standings of the IPL at one stage.
So naturally, the RCB players celebrated their feat wildly.
However, visuals from the ground appeared to indicate that RCB players were so engrossed in celebrating their win, that they may have missed out on a few formalities.
This irked analysts like former England captain Michael Vaughan and Harsha Bhogle. Both felt that RCB players should have first shook hands with CSK players, especially Dhoni, since there is uncertainty about whether Dhoni will play in the IPL again after this. Since Dhoni has retired from international cricket, the IPL is the only form of cricket he currently plays.

“If there ever was a time for a group of players to show awareness. We don’t know but if that was MS Dhoni’s last game and those players have run around the ground doing handstands when all they need is to wait and meet the legend. We have to just go and shake his hands and then we can do a few cartwheels and handstands. That’s absolutely fine,” the former England captain said on Cricbuzz. “This is an iconic player. I wouldn’t want to be an RCB player tomorrow morning thinking, ‘Wait a minute, MS Dhoni has announced his retirement and we didn’t have the decency to go and shake his hand first’”.
It must be noted that it is not known if the RCB players later went to meet Dhoni to shake hands with him.
Bhogle also weighed in.
“It doesn’t matter. You win a World Cup final, you display your emotions, but you still shake hands with the opposition. That handshake is symbolic of the fact that (two teams are saying) ‘now, our antagonism is over. We did not give an inch to each other. Now it’s over,’” said Bhogle.
