Mohammed Shami ruled out of Test matches, Deepak Chahar withdraws from ODI series | Cricket News
Senior pacer Mohammed Shami has been ruled out from the two-match Test series against South Africa as the bowler is yet to recover from the an ankle injury, the BCCI has said in a statement.
Though Shami was included in the Test squad that was announced on November 30, the 33-year-old’s availability was subjected to his recovery after the treatment.
“Mohammed Shami, whose participation in the Test series was subject to fitness has not been cleared the BCCI Medical Team and the fast bowler is ruled out of the two Tests,” BCCI said in a statement.
No replacement has been announced for for the 33-year-old.
Deepak Chahar withdraws
Deepak Chahar, who missed the T20I series has informed the BCCI that he won’t avialable for the ODI series due to a family medical emergency.
Chahar has also missed the fifth T20 against Australia as he had to urgently return home after receiving news about the illness of a family member.
Bengal pacer Akash Deep has been named as Chahar’s replacement.

Iyer to miss second and third ODI
India middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer will miss the second and third ODI and will join the Test squad to prepare for the Test series. Iyer will take part in the inter-squad game.
Dravid to stay with Test squad
Team India head coach Mr Rahul Dravid, alongwith batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach T Dilip will link up with the Test squad and oversee their preparations for the inter-squad game and the Test series.
The ODI team will be assed India A’s coaching staff comprising batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, bowling coach Rajib Datta and fielding coach Ajay Ratra.
Before the first match against South Africa, the Test side members will play a three-day intra-squad match from December 20. The second Test against the Proteas will start at Cape Town from January 3, 2024.
