Morne Morkel resigns as Pakan’s bowling coach in the aftermath of dismal World Cup campaign | Cricket-world-cup News

Pakan bowling coach Morne Morkel, who had joined the team on a six-month contract in June, has resigned from his post on Monday, the Pakan Cricket Board (PCB) stated in a press release.
Morkel’s decision to step down comes in the aftermath of Babar Azam and Co failing to qualify for the knockouts of the 2023 ODI World Cup after winning only four games from their nine outings.

PCB haven’t named Morkel’s replacement and stated in their release that a call on the same shall be taken “in due course”. Next up, Pakan are scheduled for a tour of Australia in December that’ll see them play in a three-Test series.
In the World Cup, Pakan slumped after consecutive games to start off their campaign and went on to lose four games in a row. The chances of sealing a semifinal spot were down to the impossible in their final league stage game against England – with the men in green required to chase down a staggering 338 runs inside 6.4 overs. Most Read

It was a fifth straight time at the ODI World Cup that Pakan failed to qualify for the semifinals and a campaign that has opened a can of worms back home.
Former World Cup winner and legendary seamer Wasim Akram attributed the poor performance of the team to the pacers not being able to show up. “The problem for Pakan in this WC is that our fast bowling is struggling,” he’d said on A Sports.

Mushtaq Ahmed would point fingers on the spin department. “Hamare spinners kahan hain?” he’d lamented on SAMAA TV.
