Mortal Kombat II trailer: Karl Urban ‘acts’ his way through a tournament to death, watch | Hollywood News

There have been three previous film adaptations of the Mortal Kombat game, and while the franchise is iconic enough to draw audiences to theatres, the movies have never quite lived up to its legacy. The cast of the latest Mortal Kombat film Mortal Kombat II includes Karl Urban, Martyn Ford, Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Lewis Tan, Joe Taslim and Hiroyuki Sanada. Even though many fans wanted to see the character Liu Kang as the protagon of the film, it seems that won’t be the case, as Johnny Cage (Karl) will be taking centre stage.
The trailer countdown started with a tournament-style voting competition where the viewers had to comment 1 or 2, choosing between two characters put on the screen. The countdown also revealed several fun facts about the cast of the film, like the fact that Sanada reportedly played the game as Scorpion for several hours on end in order to prepare for his role, and Taslim, who plays Sub-Zero, was so skilled in the martial arts department that they struggled to find a stunt double for him. The cutdown also gave a shoutout to legendary voice actor Ed Boon, who holds the Guinness World Record for being the longest-running voice actor. He has been voicing the character of Scorpion in the game since 1992.

In the trailer of Mortal Kombat II, a washed up Johnny Cage is invited Lord Raiden to fight in the Mortal Kombat tournament as we get a glimpse of some iconic characters like Kitana, Shao Kahn, Liu Kang, Jax and Baraka to start things off. While other movies have attempted to tell the story of the game in a more ‘serious’ way, this version helmed Simon McQuoid seems to be a more humorous and chaotic take on the story, which honestly makes sense because of the nature of the protagon Johnny Cage. Make no make; the film is still rated R, and the trailer even shows the legendary Scorpion cut through Noob Saibot.

The fresh new approach to Mortal Kombat will be hitting theatres on October 24.
