MP power meter reader bitten 17 times, says homeworner unleashed 3 dogs on him
An electricity department staffer who entered a house in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior drict to take a power consumption reading sustained serious injuries after being attacked a homeowner’s three dogs, police said on Friday.Jitendra Singh, in-charge of the Hazira police station, said a First Information Report (FIR) has been regered against the homeowner (Representative Image) (HT Photo/Praful Gangurde)Police said the victim, Ravindra Rajawat, suffered at least 17 bite wounds across his body before he was rescued and rushed to a local hospital.Jitendra Singh, in-charge of the Hazira police station, said a First Information Report (FIR) has been regered against the homeowner, Beeru Tomar, a resident of Indira Nagar. Police are currently attempting to trace Tomar to place him under arrest.Rajawat told police that he and his colleague, Aditya Singh—both employed a contractor for the state electricity board—arrived at Tomar’s house to record the meter reading.“As Ravindra stepped in, Tomar asked if he was from the department. When he confirmed, Tomar began verbally abusing him,” officer Singh said. According to the complaint, Tomar then brought out three dogs—a Pitbull, a Rottweiler, and a German Shepherd—and unleashed them on Rajawat.Tomar also smashed their meter-reading device on the ground. “The dogs mauled him, leaving him bloodied and severely injured,” the officer added.Tomar allegedly warned the two employees never to return. Following the attack, electricity department officials have requested police security for field staff.
