MP: Woman who survived suicide bid, sentenced for infant’s murder
BHOPAL: A 30-year-old woman who had jumped into a well along with her 11-month-old son has been sentenced with seven years of imprisonment by a local court in Raisen district for the murder of the infant.
Owing to domestic feud, the accused identified as Kusum, resident of Sultanganj town of the district had jumped into a well a year ago along with her 11-month-old son, the woman was rescued by the villagers but the infant died.
Kusum was later booked under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of Indian Penal Code.
Finding her to be guilty, court of additional sessions judge, BK Yadav sentenced her with 7-years rigorous imprisonment.
“The woman in her dying statement given before the tehsildar Sultanganj while she was admitted at hospital after being rescued by the villagers had admitted that she was fed up due to the domestic disputes and that’s why she jumped into the well with her infant son,” public prosecutor, advocate Badri Vishal Gupta told TOI.
