Mukesh Khanna pretends to beat anyone who accuses him of mimicking Amitabh Bachchan: ‘If I came before him, people would say Amitabh mimics me’ | Bollywood News

Apart from his iconic roles on Indian television, actor Mukesh Khanna is known for outspoken nature, which often rubs people the wrong way. The Mahabharata actor has spoken about his contemporaries, and has often addressed the accusations that were hurled his way for seemingly aping Amitabh Bachchan’s acting style. Recently, on a podcast, he talked about his image as an actor, and addressed the accusations once again.
In an episode of the Uncensored with Shardul podcast, Khanna pretended to punch an invisible person, and said that he doesn’t appreciate these comparisons, “When god creates the mould for a person, I think mine and Amitabh Bachchan’s moulds got mixed. That is why people say, ‘Look, he is copying Amit Ji’. If I would have come before him, people would say that Amitabh copies Mukesh Khanna. There are people who copy others on purpose, but in this case, Amit ji has the same height, body, way of speaking. So, all I’ll say is that this is the way I act, and you cannot copy and mimic someone for two and a half hours,” he said.

This isn’t the first time that he has addressed this subject. In an appearance on the YouTube channel Hindi Rush, he said that after shooting an ad, a man came up to him and shared what Amitabh thought of his performance. “He told me that Amit ji saw the ad and said, ‘Saala copy karta hai (He’s copying me).’ You can call me self-respecting or stubborn, but I told that man, ‘Pagal hai tu, woh aisa bolege? (Are you mad? Do you think he’d say this?)’ But that sentence stayed in my mind.”
He mentioned that people call him self-centered and say that he reminisces in the past too much. “People keep telling me that I don’t move on from Shaktimaan and Bhishma, but why should I? I am the one who created these characters, I have given those characters my face and my image. I have done two such iconic roles and I have no ambition of doing another one like them, I used to have that, but not anymore,” said the actor.
After becoming a household name thanks to the Mahabharata television series, Mukesh Khanna created and produced the Shaktimaan show, which began airing on DD in 1997 and ran till 2005, with over 500 episodes.
