The United States’ Department of Homeland Security is bracing for a significant layoff, though a final decision regarding the scale and scope of the job cut is still to be finalised, CNN reported quoting sources.
According to the report, each of the department’s (DHS) components is bound to be affected the layoffs while the negotiations and lobing remains at play between DOGE, the White House, and Homeland Security leadership. Other agencies which are facing potential slash of jobs are Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
According to a senior DHS official, “The Department is determined to eliminate government waste that has been happening for decades at the expense of the American taxpayer.”
“Across DHS, we will be eliminating non-mission critical positions and bureaucratic hurdles that undermine our mission to secure the homeland. Secretary Noem is determined to return DHS to its core mission of keeping America safe,” the official further added, as per CNN.

Job cuts in the US Secret Service would come at a time when the agency is facing an unprecedented and dynamic threat environment, as US President Donald Trump faced two assassination attempts last year during his campaign trail.Story continues below this ad
The US Secret Service is reportedly low on morale, burnout, staffing is low and is facing retention issues. Officials have said, during Trump’s assassination attempt investigation, that the agency is underfunded and under-resourced.
