Nathan McSweeney says he is ‘devastated’ after being axed from the Australian side | Cricket News

After a rocky start to his international career, Nathan McSweeney was dropped from the Australian cricket team, ahead of Boxing Day Test against India. In three matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, the South Australian batsman has managed only 72 runs in six innings with his top score of the series being 39. Sam Konstas has been named as his replacement for the Test starting on December 26 in Melbourne.
“Devastated, I mean I get the dream come true and it didn’t quite work out the way I wanted.
“But it’s all part of the game so I’ll get my head down and get back in the nets and work really hard, and hopefully be ready to go for my next opportunity” McSweeney told 7Cricket on being dropped from the side.
“I think it’s the game we’re in, if you don’t take the opportunity and you’re not performing as well as you want to, your position is never safe. I missed out on a couple of times with the bat, and unfortunately wasn’t able to take my opportunity”
McSweeney had never opened in his tenure at the state level, and was yet trusted at the position Australia. Although, it was Jasprit Bumrah he had to face with the new Kookaburra, which would turn out to be a very testing dawn for the opener.

“Looking forward to get back to my family, it’s a special time of the year (chrmas time), and also get to play for the team that I love very much, and had a really good year last year,”
Konstas could potentially make his debut at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium alongside Usman Khwaja. The teenager had scored a century in the match between Prime Miner’s XI and India in Canberra.
