Nepal plans to deploy Army for polls as Oli forms party security unit | World News

Former Nepal prime miner K P Sharma Oli Friday announced the formation of a new unit under his party to provide security to the country’s people, media and professionals.
The National Volunteer Service was formed in view of the government’s failure in ensuring security in the country, the former prime miner said.
The Commun Party of Nepal-Unified Marx Lenin (CPN-UML) move comes little more than two months after Oli’s resignation following youth protests in September.
The move also comes after two days of clashes in southern Nepal between CPM-UML cadres and youth protesters.

Reviewing the security situation in the country, Nepal’s National Security Council on Friday suggested the government deploy the Army to ensure
security during the general election scheduled for March 5, 2026.  Recommendations were made with an aim to conduct the election in a “free, fair and fearless manner,” according to a statement Defence Secretary Suman Raj Aryal. He is also a member secretary of the NSC.Story continues below this ad
The Minry of Home Affairs has already approved an integrated security plan for the elections and circulated it to all 77 drict adminration offices for implementation.
