Nepal pro-monarchy leader Prasai surrenders in Assam | World News
Durga Prasai, a key figure in Nepal’s pro-monarchy movement, is learnt to have surrendered before police in Assam’s Guwahati on Thursday.
Prasai, 54, was to be handed over to Nepal police personnel at Kakarbhitta in Nepal’s Jhapa drict bordering West Bengal, it is learnt.
Family sources said he earlier wanted to surrender in the presence of civil society, media and human rights leaders in Nepal as he saw a threat to his life from the K P Sharma Oli government.

A Mao guerrilla-turned-close associate of Oli, Prasai switched to the pro-monarchy camp little more than a year ago. He had led the March 28 rally for restoration of monarchy in Kathmandu.
The demonstration saw clashes between security forces and pro-monarchy activs.
An irate Prasai was seen driving his vehicle through a prohibited area, uprooting barriers in protest, but soon disappeared from the scene. He alleged from a hideout that the government planned to kill him.
Prasai had been arrested about two months ago after accusing Oli of making huge investments in the telecom sector in Cambodia, but was released on a court order.
