Woman dies during botched butt implant removal fake surgeon in New York | World News

A 31-year-old woman from Queens, New York City, has died after an unlicensed man attempted to remove her buttock implants, ABC News reported.
María Peñaloza went into cardiac arrest during the illegal procedure, which was carried out on 28 March at the home of 38-year-old Felipe Hoyos-Foronda, according to court papers cited ABC.
Hoyos-Foronda, who posed as a plastic surgeon, is accused of injecting lidocaine before the operation. Prosecutors said the injection caused Peñaloza to go into cardiac arrest. She was later declared brain-dead at Astoria General Hospital.

According to ABC News, the hospital doctor told prosecutors that Peñaloza showed signs of “lidocaine toxicity” and was “not likely to survive.”

She had been taken from Hoyos-Foronda’s house to hospital, where doctors found no brain activity, the criminal complaint stated.
The NYPD said Hoyos-Foronda was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and practising without a medical licence. He is being held at the Otis Bantum Correctional Center in East Elmhurst.
A spokesperson from the Queens Drict Attorney’s Office told ABC News, “Whenever circumstances change in a case we re-examine the charges. This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and we cannot provide further comment.”
Hoyos-Foronda is due in court again on 28 April. His lawyer’s details have not yet been shared.
