Neymar exits in tears after fresh injury setback with Santos

Neymar’s career has been hit another injury setback: this time the Brazil star had to leave the pitch in tears after just 34 minutes due to a left thigh injury. Despite the injury to their star, Santos did manage to beat Atlético-MG a 2-0 margin on Wednesday. The night began for Neymar on a memorable note, he sported a commemorative No. 100 jersey signifying his 100th appearance at Vila Belmiro. But it ended on a sombre note for the forward.
The fresh setback was particularly heartbreaking for the 33-year-old as he had only made a comeback from injury as a substitute against Fluminense last Sunday. Neymar had started the game with heavy strapping on both legs. All through the game he seemed to be struggling with a niggle on his left thigh — where he had suffered an injury in a Campeonato Paula match which had left him on the sidelines for six weeks.

Clips showed Neymar crumping down on the pitch as he waited for medics to attend to him. He was driven off of the pitch. He was consoled teammates and even opposition players like one-time Brazil teammate Hulk.

“It’s still too early, we don’t have a diagnosis. That will be done tomorrow,” Santos interim head coach César Sampaio was quoted as telling reporters ESPN. “It’s a very important loss … We have to pray that it’s not something that will cause him to be absent for a long time.”
Neymar is playing in Brazil after his much-publicised stint in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Hilal ended prematurely because of injuries. He played just seven times for the Saudi Arabian football club after joining in a £77.6 million deal in August 2023.
