‘No child should go through what Aryan Khan had to’: Bob Deol saw himself in Shah Rukh Khan’s son, was struck his ‘intense personality’ | Bollywood News

Bob Deol, who can currently be seen in The Ba***ds of Bollywood, spoke about working with Aryan Khan. The Netflix series marks Aryan’s debut as a writer-director, and Bob appreciated him for the ‘maturity’ that he showed on set. He said that Aryan is far more talented than he was at his age, and agreed that he could relate to him. Bob is the son of Dharmendra, while Aryan is the son of Shah Rukh Khan; both have grown up under the shadows of their superstar fathers. Bob also alluded to the difficulties that Aryan has suffered in the last few years, and said that ‘no child should go through’ what Aryan had to.
In an appearance on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Bob was asked if he sees any similarities between himself and Aryan, and he said yes. “I wish I had the same fire that he has now. I started out with a lot of fire, but things got delayed for me a lot. Otherwise, he’s very talented. I don’t know if I was that talented. He has a persona that attracts you. There’s something attractive about him. He’s been through a lot more than I have, which no child should go through,” he added.

Bob said that he leapt at the chance to work on Aryan’s debut project, because he believes in members of the film industry coming to each other’s support. “I am from the same industry. I have two boys who want to get into this industry. And if my own industry people aren’t there for me, where will I go? It’s a fear I have. You need each other. Shah Rukh is amazing as a person. He’s so respectful, he makes you feel so special. These are qualities that my dad had, and my dad is a legend. These are qualities I’ve seen in Shah Rukh,” he said.
He recalled meeting and interacting with Aryan at a party some time ago, and being struck his personality. “Aryan insed on narrating the whole story to me. I sat with him for seven hours. I was just taken in his conviction. A few months ago, I met him at a party, and he was standing himself. I went up to him and chatted for half-an-hour. There was something special about him. He looks intense, but there’s something about his intensity, and his eyes. When I met him, and I heard him, I was amazed. I was lucky being a part of this,” he said.
Bob continued, “The kind of maturity Aryan has, I was just amazed. I kept telling myself, ‘I know what he must be going through. He’s a superstar’s son… The pressure he has’. And he has chosen not to act, but he has chosen the most difficult profession. He just made us work very hard. If there was no EP coming up to him and telling him to pack up, he would never pack up. But that’s why people have enjoyed his show.”
Aryan spent nearly a month in jail after being arrested on drugs-related charges in 2021. In The Ba***ds of Bollywood, he seemingly took a dig at his own arrest, as he caricaturised the man in charge of it, Sameer Wankhede, who filed a defamation lawsuit against him in Delhi recently.
