NZ vs PAK 2nd ODI: Ben Sears takes 5 wickets as New Zealand defeat Pakan 84 runs, take unassailable 2-0 lead | Cricket News

Pakan’s woes in the ODI format continued on Tuesday when the Mohammad Rizwan-captained side fell to New Zealand 84 runs in the second ODI match, leading to the hosts taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. This was the Men in Green’s 4th straight ODI loss since the Champions Trophy where they were eliminated after losing back to back matches against New Zealand and India.
The Kiwis’ Ben Sears took 5 wickets to break the back of Pakan’s batting lineup with only Faheem Ashraf and Naseem Shah putting up some sort of resance with 73 runs and 51 runs respectively. The duo, who both scored their maiden ODI half centuries, put on a 60-run partnership for the 9th wicket before Pakan were bundled out in 41.2 overs.
Rizwan and Babar Azam both failed to fire while Pakan’s top order suffered a familiar collapse with the first 5 batters scoring in single digits. If you look at the whole Pakan batting lineup, 8 batters scored in single digits which paints a not so glorious picture of the batting prowess.

“We didn’t do well as a batting group because the start of the batting we didn’t utilize the swing and New Zealand bowled very well,” Rizwan said. “Later on Faheem and Naseem batted very well on a disappointing day for us.” Jacob Duffy and Sears reaped the rewards. Duffy took 3-35 and Sears snared a five-wicket haul on his ODI debut.
Earlier, Mitch Hay was left stranded on 99 as New Zealand made 292-8 after being sent in. Hay hit 22 runs from New Zealand’s final over, including two sixes and two fours, as he chased a maiden ODI century.

Wasim took 1-15 and Sufiyan took 2-29, bowling tandem seven-over spells which seemed to have limited New Zealand’s total after it was 97-2 at the end of the 15th over. But Hay helped New Zealand to a highly competitive score, reaching his half century from 61 balls, then adding 49 from 17 deliveries.
