October box office collection: Varun Dhawan starrer rakes in 5.04 crore on day one
Mumbai: Shoojit Sircar’s romantic drama ‘October’ that stars Varun Dhawan and debutante Banita Sandhu in the lead roles, hit the screens yesterday. The film, reportedly, registered an occupancy of 10-15 per cent in its morning shows, which is lowest ever for a Varun Dhawan starrer. By the end of the day, the film minted around Rs 5.04 crore.
Noted film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and shared the opening day collection of Varun Dhawan-Banita Sandhu starrer. He wrote, “#October has a slow start… Biz will have to witness miraculous growth over the weekend + maintain a strong trend on weekdays to leave a mark… Word of mouth is extremely mixed… Fri ₹ 5.04 cr. India biz.”
The business of Shoojit Sircar directorial is not very surprising as ‘October’ is a film strictly meant for the niche audience.
Deccan Chronicle critic Rohit Bhatnagar gave three stars to Varun Dhawan starrer and wrote in this review: “October surely doesn’t have a solid plot but the journey of two people and their unnamed relationship is tearful. It is certainly not a typical boy-girl love story which has a tragic end but has a decent amount of relatability. Perhaps, it is Sircar’s weakest film which holds no surprise but still manages to leave with a heavy heart. Well, that’s his trademark!”
Bankrolled by Rising Sun Films & Kino Works, ‘October’ is scripted by Sircar’s frequent collaborator Juhi Chaturvedi. It has been touted as a unique story about love that goes beyond the regular love stories.
