With skipper Kane Williamson and Mark Chapman already out of contention, New Zealand suffered more injury blows in the league stage game against South Africa in Pune.

During what was their heaviest defeat of the tournament so far – 190 runs – the Kiwis were dealt blows as pacer Matt Henry and all-rounder Jimmy Neesham picked up a right hamstring and right wr injury respectively.
In a statement from New Zealand Cricket (NZC), it is revealed that Henry, who experienced tightness in his right hamstring while bowling in Pune “will undergo an MRI scan in the next 24 hours to ascertain the extent of the injury.”
Neesham on the other hand had a bruised right wr after being struck the ball while bowling in the first innings at the MCA Stadium. “The injury saw Neesham slide down the batting order to number nine, but an X-ray has cleared him of any broken bones,” NZC stated.

The Black Caps had come into Wednesday’s contest with Lockie Ferguson dealing with a right achilles injury he’d picked during the game against Australia in Dharamsala on Saturday. Luckily, the scans have revealed “no significant damage and it’s hoped he’ll be available for Saturday’s game against Pakan in Bengaluru.”
The cricket board furthermore clarified that Chapman and Williamson, who are nursing a calf and thumb injury respectively, “weren’t considered for today’s game against South Africa and they will be assessed again in Bengaluru ahead of Saturday’s penultimate round-robin match.”
Next up, the Kiwis play Pakan on Saturday and will depart for Bangalore on Thursday afternoon.
