President Donald Trump honoured fallen US service members on Monday during a Memorial Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Speaking at the military burial ground, Trump paid respects to those who died in service to the country and acknowledged the sacrifices made their families.
In his address, Trump said, “We remember the heroes who gave everything so we could live in freedom.” The ceremony was held among rows of white headstones where more than 400,000 service members and their relatives are buried.

Despite the ceremony’s focus on remembrance, Trump briefly mentioned his role as president. He said, “We are fixing the country after a long and hard four years.” He did not provide further details on what he meant the statement, but returned quickly to the central theme of the day honouring the fallen.
Earlier in the day, Trump posted a message on social media that included criticism of his predecessor and several judges. However, during the ceremony at Arlington, his comments largely focused on the military and their families.

Trump’s remarks also reflected on the duty and service of those in the armed forces. He said, “They stood for our country, and we stand their memory.” He also spoke about the values of service and commitment shown those who joined the military, many of whom lost their lives in combat or while carrying out missions abroad.
Memorial Day is observed each year on the last Monday of May. It is one of the most recognised military holidays in the United States and is marked ceremonies, parades, and moments of reflection across the country.
This year’s event at Arlington National Cemetery continued the custom of honouring the military dead, with Trump leading the national observance as president.
