BJP to support tribal villagers’ protest

The Chhattisgarh government should stop felling of trees to make way for the second phase of the Parsa coal block, BJP leader and former Minister Brijmohan Agarwal said on Tuesday, and urged the administration to go for green energy.

Addressing the media, Agarwal said even former Congress President Rahul Gandhi had stated that he does not agree with the decision of the Chhattisgarh government giving approval for mining projects in Hasdeo Aranya forest area.

People in the area have been protesting against the decision to chop trees.

Agarwal pointed out that Rahul Gandhi had promised during his visit to Madanpur in Korba district that no mining will take place.

On the question of central laws and allocation, he said it was the state government which gave the final stamp of approval.

He said that when the world is moving out of coal for power generation due to climate change, alternative sources like solar and wind option for power generation should be promoted.
