Panchayats on way to fulfil CM’s MNREGA pledge
To fulfill the resolution of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to provide employment to every needy, more than 99% of gram panchayats of the State are getting employment-oriented work done under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA).
There are 9 works in progress in each gram panchayat, with an average of 100 labourers working.In this way, out of 22809 gram panchayats of the State, one lakh 86 thousand 12 employment-oriented works are being conducted in 22,484 gram panchayats, in which more than 22.44 lakh labourers are getting employment.
Among them, about three and a half lakhs of migrant labourers returned from other States.Additional Chief Secretary Panchayat and Rural Development Manoj Shrivastava informed that since the Government of India issued the MNREGA guidelines on April 20, employment activities in rural areas have been started more rapidly following the Corona Protocol in Madhya Pradesh.
As a result of it, employment activities have been started in 99 percent of gram panchayats. Srivastava informed that under MNREGA, instructions have been given to start such employment-oriented works which can be continued even during the rainy season, as well as water conservation and promotion works are also being done under MNREGA on priority.
So far, an amount of Rs 829.84 crore has been paid to the labourers under the MNREGA. In this, an amount of Rs 439 crore 84 lakh has been paid for the current financial year and for the last year wages of Rs 390 crore has been paid. In addition, material worth Rs 391 crore has also been paid.
Additional Chief Secretary informed that under the MNREGA, employment-oriented activities are being conducted in all the gram panchayats of 4 districts of the state-Ashoknagar, Indore, Katni and Panna.
Under this, 2874 works are in progress in all 334 gram panchayats of Ashoknagar district, in which 27,173 labourers are getting employment.
Similarly, 1,508 works are being done in all 312 gram panchayats of Indore district, in which 16,222 labourers are employed, 5,335 jobs in all 407 panchayats of Katni district, in which 59,549 labourers are employed, 3223 works in 395 gram panchayats of Panna district, in which 28,178 labourers are employed.
