Paris 2024 Paralympic Medal Table: India opened their account in the Paris Paralympics on Friday with shooters Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal winning gold and bronze respectively in the 10m rifle event. Meanwhile, Preeti Pal finished 3rd in Women’s 100m – T35 Final, with a Personal Best of 14.21s which helped her bag a bronze. Shooter Manish Narwal also bagged a silver medal in the Men’s 10m Air Pol SH1 Final on the same day taking India’s medal tally to 4.
India has sent the largest number of participants in the Paralympics this year with 84 athletes competing in 12 sports who will be looking to overtake its medal tally from Tokyo. In the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021, India was represented 54 members in nine sports and won 19 medals.
“Our 84-member team has come here with great enthusiasm. As the president of the Paralympic Committee, I want to tell you that we are going to create hory in this tournament,” Double paralympic medal Devendra Jhajharia, who is now president of the Paralympic Committee of India, had said in a video message after the contingent reached the Games village.
As of writing, India are 10th in the table with 4 medals while China leads the tally with 11, followed Australia with 6. Great Britain is 3rd with 7 and Italy is 4th with 9 while Brazil is 5th with 6. Colombia and Netherlands are both tied in 6th place and Uzbekan and France are 8th and 9th respectively.
