Pat Cummins: Happy that SRH batting is calculated aggression and not reckless or swinging blindly | Ipl News

As SunRisers Hyderabad take on Gujarat Titans in the battle of the two best stylishly kitted-out teams of the IPL, their three losses on a trot seem to have deflated some of the hype that was building around them breaking the 300 barrier. Skipper Pat Cummins says, he’s happy his bludgeons are capable of striking at 200, and there’s a method to the madness.
Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan haven’t really taken off since the first match where they got 280 odd. But Pat Cummins isn’t stressed. “Look it started out with pretty much as well as we could’ve played which is great for new squad and then next two games haven’t gone to plan or been our best. Probably haven’t had the luck you sometimes hope for. We would like to have more mins but pretty happy with how the group is going. Everyone’s really positive. Still a long way to go in the tournament,” Cummins told SRH socials.
Though the 300 hasn’t shown up yet, Cummins had faith in the batting chops of his power-packed batting order that reads Head, Abhishek, Ishan, Nitish Reddy, Aniket Verma and Heinrich Klaasen. To this was added Kamindu Mendis. “Most of our players are pretty aggressive. In the first game where we got 280 odd, what stood out for me was it wasn’t reckless. It was calculated aggression. I think we’re lucky we’ve got such strength that it’s never just blind swinging. Our guys are actually well suited to striking at 200. So that’s what we always encourage,” Cummins, the Aussie World Cup-winning captain, known for his composed leadership, said.

After the last loss – third straight, coach Dan Vettori had told the team, “Three losses, I know everyone is affected it. But we can’t forget how good a team we are and that our style will come off.”

Meanwhile, win or lose, the SRH dressing room rituals are getting eyeballs on the socials. Kamindu, who debuted won the Riser of the day, while the Saver of the day gets a lifeguard’s inflated tyre or buoy autographed. However, the most eye-popping dressing room award is the thick red medal on a gold-plated chain (as thick as bicycle chain) which went to Md Shami last game.
Post their opening match, the SRH have badly stumbled with a neutralised top order, and slumped to last in the standings with just 2 points from 4 matches and a negative NRR of 1.612, while DC are unbeaten in three matches. However Cummins reckoned the team, egged on constantly to go past 300, will come good sooner than later.
The team continues to learn the lyrics of ‘Tigerland’, the catchy peppy anthem of the Richmond Aussie rulez football team, that the group likes to croon. However it’s the big hitting that will need to hit the right pitch against Gujarat before they broke into a happy song again.
