PBKS vs DC: Virender Sehwag praises Prabhsimran Singh, takes a dig at Sam Curran
On Saturday the Punjab Kings continued to keep their playoff hopes alive beating the Delhi Capitals in New Delhi 31 runs. They eliminated Delhi in the process, despite setting the Capitals a target of only 168 – a low score when this season’s IPL totals are to be looked at.
Punjab’s innings was lifted a brilliant knock from Prabhsimran Singh, who slammed a 65-ball-103 run effort. This was his maiden Indian Premier League century – one that was stitched together thanks to 10 boundaries and six sixes at a strike rate of 158.46. Delhi made a blering start in the powerplay overs as David Warner struck a 27-ball 54, but the rest of their batsmen crumbled to Harpreet Brar.
Later former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag talked about the cost effectiveness of a player like Singh. Initially Singh was purchased for 4.8 crores but in another auction was bought for a far lesser 60 lakhs. Sehwag compared his price to that of Sam Curran and took a dig at the English pacer.
“Punjab Kings have benefitted from the chances that they’ve given to Prabhsimran. Now, he has to be consent. And I think the PBKS will benefit a lot from such a player. When he came for the first time, he was bought for a lot of money (INR 4.8 crore). This time around, he fetched quite less (INR 60 lakh). But he proved his talent today.
“He showed that he can hit those centuries. Again, he was bought for INR 60 lakh, and if a player fetching that much scores hundreds and wins you a couple of games, there can be nothing better than that. You bought Sam Curran for 18.5 crores, what has he done?” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
Punjab next face Delhi again on May 17 at the HPCA stadium.
