‘People slept on roads, waited in line for two days to buy Mughal-E-Azam tickets’, recalls Raza Murad | Bollywood News

Mughal-E-Azam is considered as one of the greatest films ever made in Hindi cinema. Directed K Asif, it was one of the most expensive films of its time and faced many delays because of its elaborate production. However, the delays were worth it as the film was an instant hit and the audience queued up for days to get tickets for the Dilip Kumar, Prithviraj Kapoor and Madhubala film. In a recent chat, veteran actor Raza Murad said that the queue to buy tickets for the film lasted for two days and extended to over 5 kms. Raza’s father, Hamid Ali Murad was also part of the iconic film. He played the role of Raja Man Singh.
In an interview with ANI, Raza shared, “For Monday’s advance booking, people queued up since Saturday. I have seen this myself. People would sleep on roads, their family members would bring them food there and they would wait to buy tickets for Monday’s show. The queue that started at Bombay Central, went upto Mahalaxmi.”

He also expressed that a film like this should never be remade and anyone who attempts to do so will fail miserably. “I believe God had sent Madhubala, Asif, and Prithviraj Kapoor on a mission. Their mission was to make Mughal-E-Azam. Soon after the film, they all went back to him.” Madhubala, K Asif and Prithviraj Kapoor died within twelve years of the film release.
Mughal-E-Azam was the grandest film ever made in India until that time. While the entire film was shot in monochrome, K Asif shot the song “Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya” with Madhubala in colour. It was during the shoot of this film that Dilip and Madhubala called off their relationship so while they were playing lovers on screen, they were not even on talking terms with each other.
