PM Modi bids farewell to retiring Rajya Sabha MPs, hints at disruptions in Parliament
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated the retiring Rajya Sabha MPs for their service and extended wishes for their future. But as he spoke high of them, the continued disruptions in the Rajya Sabha found mention in his speech.
While he did not use terms such as “din” or “disruptions” in his speech, PM Modi expressed regret on how the retiring members will “unfortunately” not be part of Parliament when the decision on instant triple talaq is taken.
PM Modi said the responsibility of Parliament’s smooth functioning lies not only with the opposition, but also with the government.
“We bid farewell to some of our MP colleagues in the Rajya Sabha. All of the outgoing parliamentarians have their significant contribution, importance, and each one of them has tried to contribute to the best of their capacity for the bright future of this country, and the country will not forget them,” he said.
PM Modi particularly named and thanked few of the eminent members of the House appointed by the President.
“We will always remember the distinguished work of Parasaran Ji. The players who have made India proud, Dilip (Tirkey) ji and Sachin (Tendulkar) ji, in the coming, days we will not have the privilege of their presence. Everyone will remember Professor (PJ) Kurien and his smiling face. This has been his specialty and he played an important role in running the House,” he said.
“Unfortunately, you will not be a part of Parliament when the long due decision on Triple Talaq is taken,” he added.
The Rajya Sabha, PM Modi said, is a distinguished House with eminent members serving here. He said the House plays a vital role in India’s democracy.
