BHOPAL: The two-day state executive meet of BJP ended in Sagar on Wednesday with a resolve to retain power in 2018 assembly elections, fourth time in succession, capitalising on chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s image and popularity.
“We have achieved great success in bypolls and assembly elections by cashing in on Chouhan’s popularity and we are hopeful to retain power for the fourth time in the state,” said BJP state chief Nandkumar Singh Chauhan while talking to reporters on Wednesday. He said the party is observing 2017 as Deendayal Varsh to mark the birth centenary of BJP’s ideologue Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay and it has been decided that the chief minister will visit all 51 districts to deliver lecture on Deendayal’s integrated humanism. Nandkumar said just the way Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru were called “Bapu” and “Chacha”, respectively, Shivraj Singh Chouhan too is referred to as “Mama” (maternal uncle) by masses in the state. “This connects public and the party. BJP is blessed to have Prime Minister Modi at the national level and Chouhan at the state level,” he said. He also told the party leaders to remain socially active by organising functions. He said they will felicitate elected representatives of the party who do good public work.
Addressing the concluding session, the chief minister praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said people were fortunate enough to have a global leader as head of the country. “His blessings and party workers’ efforts have given a boost to the development in the state. No one can stop BJP’s victory march in the country,” said Chouhan. The chief minister asked the partymen to organise six public functions annually to connect with people at grass-root level.
BJP national vice-president and in-charge of state affairs, Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, praised demonetisation and other initiatives taken by Modi and said that it would wipe out evils like corruption, black money and terrorism from the country. He also praised Narmada Yatra being organised in the state and termed it as a unique public movement to protect environment. The working committee discussed political and agriculture resolutions and praised welfare schemes launched by the state and the centre. The committee resolved to focus on its ambitious programmes like Beti Bachao, Narmada Seva Yatra, and financial assistance to poor and meritorious students pursuing higher studies.
