‘Poora exhibition setup kar diya’: Twinkle Khanna shows how to reuse ‘ghisa, pitta old kurta, sari’ to make wall decor for your home | Lifestyle News

Fashion trends evolve, but memories attached to our old saris and kurtas remain timeless. Instead of discarding them, why not breathe new life into these cherished fabrics?
Twinkle Khanna, a celebrated author, column, and interior decor enthusiast, has shared her ingenious ways to upcycle old textiles into beautiful home decor elements. With just a little creativity, you can transform your worn-out wardrobe pieces into stunning pieces of art.
“You don’t need to buy out an entire decor store to give your home a festive makeover,” says Khanna. Instead of investing in expensive store-bought decorations, she suggests using exing fabric to revamp your space.

One of the simplest ways to do this is creating a gallery wall using old saris, kurtas, and dupattas. “A sasta and easy way to make your space pop is with a gallery wall. We are going to fill all of this up. And the best part is that no one will know that this once used to be your ghisa pitta kurta,” she explains.
Many of us hold onto fabric pieces for sentimental reasons, but over time, they begin to fray and lose their charm. Instead of keeping them tucked away, Twinkle suggests repurposing them into decorative art pieces. “Dig out those old saris, scarves, old cushion covers, even old dupattas. These can also be family heirlooms that were about to fall apart and now are turned into works of art.”

Simply frame a piece of embroidered fabric, or use old saris as wall hangings to add a vintage touch to your decor. Mix and match these pieces with your own artwork to create an eclectic yet cohesive look. “Fast, festive, and you can mix and match with your own artwork,” she adds.
If you love DIY projects, old textiles offer endless possibilities. From cushion covers and table runners to lampshades and curtain accents, there’s no limit to what you can create. “Isko dekhke toh lagta hain jaise aapne poora exhibition set up kar diya ho. But all you did was just get crafty with old fabric,” says Twinkle, emphasising the transformative power of creativity.Story continues below this ad
