‘Premier League is the best league for Muslims to be in’: Everton midfielder Doucoure
Everton mid-field player Abdoulaye Doucoure said that the Premier League is the best league for Muslim players to be ply their trade. Doucoure’s statement comes ahead of the holy month of Ramadan which began on Wednesday evening.
“We feel very confident here, very accepted and everything is in place for Muslim people to enjoy,” he was quoted as saying BBC Sport.
“In the Premier League you are free to do whatever suits you, they will never do anything against your faith and this is great.
“I was born in France and worked there, but between France and England there is a big difference. English people are a great example.
“Sometimes you have to len to the people and understand what the faith means to them. It is not a choice – it matters to us to protect our faith 100 per cent.

“I always wanted to be in the Premier League and I want to stay much longer here. It is the best league for Muslims to be in,” he concluded.
Doucoure’s comments come on the backdrop of the Premier League and English Football League match officials deciding to pause play so players can break their fast during the holy period of Ramadan.
According to a report on Sky Sports, match officials have been issued guidance so players can break their fast taking on liquids, energy gels or supplements on the touchline during a pause in play.
Referees have also been encouraged to identify players who are fasting prior to kickoff and agree an estimated time for the pause in play.
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante and Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez are among players who are expected to abstain from eating and drinking during daylight hours.
