Premier League: ‘It is not just on the pitch, it is outside the pitch’: Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim on the team’s struggles | Football News

With Manchester United suffering their 13th loss this Premier League season with a 0-2 loss against West Ham on Sunday last week, the Ruben Amorim coached side is now without a win in the Premier League for seven games in a row. The winless streak matched the club’s longest winless streak in the Premier League era when Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United side failed to reger a win in seven consective matches in 1992. Sunday’s loss was also the club’s 13th loss since Amorim took the job in the club and with the team winning only six games this season, the 40-year-old spoke about ‘something wrong with the way the team is playing football’
“I am embarrassed that in 26 games, we have won six. Something is wrong with the way we are playing football. Sometimes it is not about the way we play tactically, it is the way we face competition and suffer. When we get mad about losing. Everything we have been through, I have a clear picture and a clear feeling of what this team needs to be so much better. It is not just on the pitch, it is outside the pitch. We have all the conditions to be better.” Amorim told Sky Sports.
Manchester United will face Chelsea tonight at Stamford Bridge. While the club is placed 16th in the Premier League points table this season with two matches to go, the team is still to reach the 40-point mark in the competition. Sunday’s loss was also United’s ninth home loss in the season and it equalled the earlier record of nine losses for the club in 1930-31 and 1962-63 non Premier League era. The club has suffered losses against Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Wolves, Brentford and West Ham apart from draws against Manchester United and Bournemouth since their last win in the Premier League coming against Leicester on March 16.

Manchester United will face Tottenham in Bilbao in the Europa League final on May 21 but Amorim believes the team needs to forget about the Europa League final and concentrate on winning against Chelsea on Friday “There are some things we cannot change in summer, the feeling in the club and the way we see it. The feeling that we cannot lose a match. We have to change that and not think about transfers. That is more profound than changing people. We are doing that but people cannot see that. The way we work and the behaviour we have in the club. The things we cannot see, we are working on it. We need to forget about the final and need to be better against Chelsea,” Amorim added.
Since 1992, Manchester United have had five or more winless runs only six times with five-match winless streak in 2019 under Ole Gunner Solskjaer being the last instance. When asked about the team lacking confidence, Amorim shared about the team ‘lacking something more profound’. “That is one thing. To fight till the end and the way we face competition (is another), it is not okay to lose or draw. That feeling is not about confidence, it is about the belief and understanding that we are Manchester United. Our position is unacceptable. That is not a lack of confidence, it is a lack of something more profound,” added the coach.
