Prince William and Harry’s childhood bodyguard Graham Craker dies at 77 | World News
Prince William and Prince Harry’s former bodyguard Graham Craker passed away on Monday at the age of 77.
Craker was the bodyguard of the brothers when their mother, Princess Diana, lost her life in a car crash in 1997, according to the The Telegraph and Sky News. Prince Harry, who was 12-years-old at the time of Princess Diana’s accident, recalled Craker’s support in the aftermath of the incident in his 2023 memoir, Spare. He was given the nickname “Crackers” Diana.
The royal bodyguard also accompanied William and Harry, walking behind the hearse carrying their mother from St James’s Palace to Westminster Abbey on the day of her funeral. Prince Harry in his memoir recalled, “The driver had to keep pulling over so the bodyguard could get out and clear the flowers off the windscreen….The bodyguard was Graham. Willy and I liked him a lot. We always called him Crackers. We thought that was hysterical.”

Sharing his account of the funeral with the New York Post, Craker said, “I was standing at the rear of the hearse and William looked up and acknowledged me. I looked toward him and nodded. William was comforted that I was with his mum on her final journey.”
Craker served as the personal protection officer of both Princes William and Harry for 15 years, until his retirement in 2001, as per Daily Mail. Before serving the royal family, Craker had also worked 35 years for United Kingdom’s Metropolitan Police.
Craker was also made a Member of the Royal Victorian Order late Queen Elizabeth II for his services to the Royal Family, according to The Telegraph.
He was also a guest at Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011.Story continues below this ad
Post his retirement, Craker volunteered for several charitable organisations, including becoming a trustee for a Hertfordshire-based charity Always Bee You, which is involved in supporting adults with learning disabilities and mental health issues.
