Actor Sanjay Dutt, fondly known as ‘Baba’, has had his fair share of crests and troughs in the industry, with stints in jail, mega-hits and major failures at the box office. He has gone through as much turmoil in his personal life as in his career, and in a recent interview his ser Priya Dutt talked about how her brother dealt with all these events in his life and managed to stay afloat mentally and physically.
In an appearance on the Vickey Lalwani podcast, Priya talked about how the Dutts went through many incidents of personal turmoil, including the cancer diagnosis of Sanjay Dutt’s first wife, Richa Sharma. “It was a very tragic thing to get diagnosed with a brain tumour at that age and to pass away so young. It was particularly tough on Sanjay. But he is a resilient person; he takes things in his stride. You can’t pin him down for too long; he will always come back.” Sanjay Dutt and Richa Sharma married in 1987, however, Richa was diagnosed with brain tumour two years later and died in 1996 at her parents’ home. They have a daughter together, Trishala Dutt, who is a psychotherap profession and lives in the US.

Priya also talked about how the family dealt with Sanjay’s cancer diagnosis and said, “It was crazy, because his career had just taken off again, and he was getting good movies. But we took some decisions, and he was very strong through all of it. He fought it, and I think that is the strength of our family. We give each other space when everyone is happy, but whenever anything goes wrong, we rally together.”
She admitted that Sanjay wanted to get done with the treatments as soon as possible rather than focus on why this was happening to him. “His treatment started immediately, and all he asked was not to be treated like a patient. He used to come from chemotherapy and would work out straight after. He doesn’t let anything bring him down,” added Priya.
Sanjay Dutt has a number of projects in the pipeline as of now, such as Housefull 5 and The Bhootnii. The release date for the latter film has been confirmed, and the film will hit the screens May 1. The cast of the film includes Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Singh, Mouni Roy, Palak Tiwari and Aasif Khan.
