PV Sindhu provides injury update after French Open withdrawal: ‘Determined to come back firing on all cylinders’ | Badminton News

After a rare mid-match withdrawal in her career at the French Open last week, former world champion PV Sindhu said on Tuesday that scans revealed a niggle in her left knee and she has been advised a few weeks rest.
Sindhu was leading 21-18 1-1 in her second-round match against Thailand’s Supanida Katethong but after receiving a medical timeout, she decided to pull out. It is possibly the first time in her long career that she has retired in a match as per information available of BadmintonStatics
“After returning from France and undergoing a knee scan, we’ve found a niggle in my left knee. In hindsight, conceding the match was the best call,” Sindhu posted a statement on her social media channels. “Doctors have advised a few weeks rest before I begin training again. The break is also an opportunity to focus on the upcoming Olympics.”
Sindhu had said on the day of her injury that she has always taken pride during her career to use minimal medical breaks or injury timeouts. But that day she chose to respect my body and not aggravate it.

The double Olympic medall had a good outing in Europe, reaching the semifinals in Finland and Denmark, before another impressive win against world No 7 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in Rennes. The Indian superstar had returned to the top 10 briefly on the back of that, but has moved down a place to No 11 in the latest rankings. She is currently not in the reckoning to qualify for the season-ending World Tour Finals, but is placed well in the Olympic qualification cycle at 9th overall.
She did not provide an exact date for her return to action.
“Thank you to everyone who continues to support me, your love is what makes the journey worth it, I shall be back on the court very soon,” Sindhu signed off.
