Rahul Gandhi asks for probable candidates’ list for upcoming Lok Sabha polls

Congress president Rahul Gandhi has asked for probable candidates’ list for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from all state chiefs.

According to sources, every block/district chief has been asked to provide names of candidates to their state in-charges. The state Pradesh committee from across the country has to submit the report to AICC by February 20.

A senior Congress leader told  All in-charges, General Secretaries and Secretaries have been asked to complete this exercise (to identify probable candidates) as early as possible. Grass root level performance of candidates has to be taken into account.”

The circular issued by All India Congress Committee (AICC) states, By January 30, party’s state unit chiefs should submit the names of suitable leaders to be deployed as AICC observers. Also, to indicate tentative dates by which the state units will be ready to bring the ticket proposals.

According to sources, Congress also plans to announce the names of some of its key candidates early because the early announcement of candidate names will help in charting out the strategy to stitch pre-poll alliances.

Also, these candidates’ winning capabilities will have an impact on the seat-sharing formula’ discussion with alliance partners, sources added.
