Ram Gopal Verma recalls when police came to arrest him for his tweets: ‘Cops had a drink and left’ | Bollywood News

Director Ram Gopal Verma is a polarising figure in the Indian entertainment industry, to say the least. Credited with films such as Shiva (1989), Rangeela (1995) and Satya (1998), the filmmaker also garners a lot of attention due to his online presence. He has found himself in the middle of controversy many times due to his tweets and the content of these said tweets.
In an interview with Game Changers, the director shared one such instance. Recalling one of his older tweets, he said, “4-5 years ago, I had tweeted a few posts, and I did not think about it, whatever I felt. After a few hours, Mahesh Bhatt, sir, called me and said, ‘Ramu, there is a furore over your tweets, but understand that blasphemy is not against the law,’ and I had no idea what he was talking about because I had already forgotten what I had done.”

The director added that almost 6-7 cases were filed against him on the matter, but the law had other plans. “We were trying to aggregate all the cases, but the time the police got to my office, the court had already reversed the law that every day, under which I was booked. The police had no idea what to do, so they all sat with me, had a drink and then left.”
The Hyderabad native admitted that he does not pay much heed to most of his tweets. “Most of what I tweet is out of ignorance, but sometimes I do it just to poke or irritate someone.”
Despite all the controversies regarding his career, RGV has delivered many good films which have gone on to become cult classics. He also dabbles in the short film category from time to time, keeping the audience on their toes.
