Rani Mukerji says daughter Adira might be a reincarnation of Yash Chopra: ‘Very creative, great storyteller, writes well’ | Bollywood News

Rani Mukerji, who recently completed 30 years in the film industry, is set to return to the big screen with Mardaani 3 on January 30. Ahead of the film’s release, the actor sat down for a candid, long-format conversation with her close friend and filmmaker Karan Johar, with whom she collaborated early in her career on films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and a cameo appearance in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
The interview was a celebration of Rani’s three-decade-long journey, during which she opened up about her personal life as well—particularly what drew her to filmmaker-producer Aditya Chopra, whom she later married. The couple share a daughter, Adira.
Speaking to Karan, Rani Mukerji said, “He likes to be really basic in his life every day, and that’s a very endearing quality he has. I come from a very humble and simple background. The way he respected his parents and the way he went about his daily life really attracted me to him. He didn’t carry the baggage of being Yash Chopra’s son or that of being such a prolific filmmaker. If he had even an iota of ego, I don’t think I would have ever fallen for him.”
During the conversation, the two also spoke about Adira, with Karan recalling an incident from a London vacation that highlighted her love for food. “She is just obsessed with food, just like her father,” he said, adding that Adira confidently led gourmet menu items while his own children looked on, completely puzzled.

Rani agreed, and added, “She is truly Yash Chopra’s granddaughter. Sometimes I honestly feel she might be Yash Chopra’s reincarnation.”
Praising her daughter’s creative side, Rani shared that Adira is already showing a flair for storytelling. “She writes extremely well and is a wonderful storyteller,” she said.
