‘Ravindra Jadeja is not injured’: Saurashtra explain India all-rounder’s bowling absence in Ranji Trophy match | Cricket News

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja did not bowl in Saurashtra’s thumping innings and 144-run win victory over Assam in their final Ranji Trophy 2024-25 league stage fixture that ended on Saturday.
The win marked Saurashtra’s resounding comeback in the second phase of the domestic tournament to secure the top position in the group and will play the quarter-finals at home next week. Jadeja, who returned to the set-up last week, was part of another crushing win over Delhi where he snapped 12 wickets, including a seven-wicket haul.
Jadeja had also become the fourth Saurashtra bowler to record 200 wickets in the Ranji Trophy during the game, while also going past 550 First-Class scalps. The veteran India all-rounder, however, was a silent participant in the fixture against Assam where Saurashtra needed a bonus point victory to confirm their quarter-final spot.

In Saurashtra’s first-innings, the three-time Ranji triple centurion walked in at No. 9 and scored 19 off 28 deliveries as his side posted a hefty 474. Jadeja would not later turn up to bowl as Saurashtra bundled out Assam for 164 and 166 across days two and three in 76.4 overs, sparking discussions over his fitness. Vishvarajsinh Jadeja had replaced the senior star for fielding duties.
However, it is learnt that Jadeja was rested for precautionary reasons as the left-arm spinner is an integral member of India’s ODI squad for the upcoming England series and the Champions Trophy in Dubai. “He was not injured. We had just rested him on the field as a precautionary measure as he will part of India’s Champions Trophy squad,” a Saurashtra team member told The Indian Express.
Jadeja is among four members of the India squad alongside Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav to have featured in the seventh Ranji league round.
Following the ongoing T20I series, the three-match ODI leg against England will begin in Nagpur on February 6. Meanwhile, the two-time Ranji champions Saurashtra will host one of Gujarat or Himachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final in Rajkot from February 8.
