RCB’s Sophie Molineux will miss WPL 2025 due to knee injury; Charlie Dean named replacement | Cricket News
Royal Challengers Bengaluru player Sophie Molineux will miss the upcoming Women’s Premier League 2025 season due to a knee injury. The Australian cricketer is replaced England’s Charlie Dean.
“Dean represents England in international cricket and has played 36 T20Is, in addition to 3 Tests and 39 ODIs. The England all-rounder will join RCB for INR 30 Lakh,” quoted an RCB press release.
“The left-arm spin bowling all-rounder was an integral part of RCB-W’s squad in WPL 2024, accounting for 12 wickets in 10 games at an economy rate of just 7.31 – including a memorable three-wicket over in the final that stole the game away from the Delhi Capitals,” it further added.
Earlier in 2024 RCB announced a significant new addition to their WPL roster as they signed Danni Wyatt-Hodge in a cash trade from UP Warriorz.
The explosive opener, who is also a brilliant fielder, is on brink of 3000 T20I runs (2979) and has a healthy career strike rate of 127.85, going even higher in recent years.
Wyatt-Hodge is currently one of the most destructive batters in the shortest format at the top of the order. She was named in the T20 World Cup team of the tournament, despite England’s shock early exit.
Batting in the top order, she was England’s most consent scorer with 151 runs in four innings. She top-scored with 41 in England’s opening victory against Bangladesh before important knocks of 43 and 51 not out in wins over South Africa and Scotland respectively.
Smriti Mandhana led the Women’s RCB team to their maiden WPL title in 2024, and will look to carry that same motivation and momentum into the next season doing everything they can to retain the title.
RCB updated squad for WPL 2025:
Smriti Mandhana (c), Sabbineni Meghana, Richa Ghosh (wk), Ellyse Perry, Georgia Wareham, Shreyanka Patil, Asha Sobhana, Sophie Devine, Renuka Singh, Charlie Dean, Ekta Bisht, Kate Cross, Kanika Ahuja, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Prema Rawat, Joshitha VJ, Raghvi B, and Jagravi Pawar.
