Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois suffers ACL injury in left knee just days before3 season opener against Athletic Bilbao | Football News
Real Madrid suffered a huge blow just before the start of the 2023/24 La Liga season as their first choice keeper Thibaut Courtois diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
“After the tests carried out on our player Thibaut Courtois, he has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days,” the Spanish giants said on Thursday.
According to various reports, the goalie was injured in training and left the ground in tears. With an ACL injury now confirmed, it’s still difficult to say when the player can return to action.

This adds to Madrid’s mounting problems as they are about to begin the campaign without a high-profile striker or a keeper in their squad. The 14-time UCL winners will begin their La Liga campaign against Athletic Bilbao on August 13.
Real Madrid are prepared to enter the market for new goalkeeper, looking for an opportunity to cover Courtois’s absence, according to journal Fabrizio Romano.
Benzema, the team’s best player the last few seasons and last year’s Ballon d’Or winner, made the lucrative move to Saudi Arabian soccer and the Spanish powerhouse has yet to replace him with someone of the same prominence.
With less than a week before the season kicks off, Madrid’s squad included only four forwards, with only one true striker among them.
Madrid has tried to sign Kylian Mbappé but has been unable to reach a deal for the France star. It may have to wait until his contract with Paris Saint-Germain ends at the end of the season to be able to finally bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu.
For now, Madrid has only signed Joselu on a loan from Espanyol. The 33-year-old striker blossomed late in his career but has been a regular with Spain’s national team. The hope is that he can team up well with Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo, the young Brazilian duo that last season showed signs they can take on a greater role in attack.
