Rishabh Pant declared fit for IPL, Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna ruled out | Cricket News
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a statement on Tuesday has declared wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant fit for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), starting from March 22. However, the fast bowling duo of Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna will miss the tournament due to injuries.
Rishabh Pant hasn’t played a single game since the time he met with an accident after the Bangladesh series.
“After undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, following a life-threatening road mishap on December 30th, 2022, near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicket-keeper batter for the upcoming IPL 2024,” read the BCCI statement.
Pant played some practice games and will be available for Delhi Capital’s opening match against Punjab Kings at Mohali which is scheduled for March 23.
A fit Pant, now 26, would be a vital player going ahead for the Indian team during ICC T20 World Cup to be held in West Indies and USA later this year in June.
“If he can play the T20 World Cup for India, that will be a big thing for us. He is a big asset for us,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said during an interaction on the sidelines of the fifth Test match between India-England in Dharmsala.
Mohammed Shami, who has been missing in action since the ODI World Cup last year due to a heel injury, is set to miss the tournament after undergoing a surgery in February, earlier this year.

The pacer, who took 24 wickets in the 2023 World Cup, missed the five-match Test series against England and will also sit out of the IPL after having undergone surgery for Achilles tendon last month.
“The fast bowler successfully underwent surgery on February 26th, 2024, for his right heel problem. He is currently being monitored the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming IPL 2024,” BCCI said.
Prasidh Krishna, who sustained a quadriceps injury while playing for Karnataka in their Ranji Trophy 2024 match against Gujarat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, has also underwent a surgery and will miss the IPL.
“The fast bowler underwent surgery on February 23rd, 2024, on his left proximal quadriceps tendon. He is currently being monitored the BCCI Medical Team and will resume rehab at the National Cricket Academy soon. He will not be able to take part in the upcoming IPL 2024.
