India after losing the first Test in Hyderabad made a remarkable comeback in the five-match series against England eventually and won the marquee series in Ranchi 3-1 with a game remaining. This series is also the first defeat for England under the Bazball era. For India, though the big names were missing the youngsters have stepped up and delivered the goods under pressure. Credit must be given to Rohit Sharma for his man-management of the young players and on-field tactics.
“My job and Rahul Bhai’s job is to give them the environment they want to be in and they don’t feel too much about going out there and getting the job done, they want to get the job done but there’s no point to keep talking about it or reminding them about it because they are very clear in what they want to do,” Rohit would say after the win.
With the win in the 4th Test, Rohit (9 wins from 15 games) has equaled Sunil Gavaskar’s (9 wins from 47 games) and MAK Pataudi’s (9 wins from 40 games) record for wins as captain from much fewer games. The Indian skipper is behind Mohammad Azharuddin (14 wins from 47 matches), Sourav Ganguly (21 wins from 49 matches), and MS Dhoni (27 wins from 60 matches). Virat Kohli is at the top of the table with 40 wins from just 68 matches.
