Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out of IPL 2025, MS Dhoni set to lead Chennai Super Kings | Ipl News

In a big blow for the Chennai Super Kings, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the IPL on Thursday with a fracture on his elbow. MS Dhoni will now take over as captain of the franchise for the remainder of the season, staring with the Kolkata Knight riders match at the Chepauk on Friday, coach Stephen Fleming said.
“As far as replacements go we have few options in the squad. We haven’t zeroed in on anyone. Dhoni was ready to take over. He understood where it was coming from,” Fleming said.
Gaikwad had picked up an injury to his right forearm in the match against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 when he was hit a Tushar Deshpande delivery, that bounced extra from a short of good length, in the right arm.

He was doubtful to start against the Delhi Capitals on April 5 but still managed to pull through. He also played the last match against Punjab Kings on Tuesday.
More than the captaincy, the absence of Gaikwad is bound to weaken CSK’s batting. CSK will now be forced to tinker their XI and their overseas combination.
